How to tell a Story with your Personal Brand Photographs (and why it matters)

How to tell a Story with your Personal Brand Photographs

(and why it matters)

Having beautiful, authentic brand photography for your business is crucial if you want to attract your soulmate clients — people that get you, your vibe, and love what you’re offering and what you’re about. To learn more about why brand photography is important and how to get a great personal brand photographer, read: “How to Find the Perfect Photographer for Your Brand” and “How to Attract Your People (Clients) as an Entrepreneur”.

Brand photography goes far beyond generic headshots. These are lifestyle photos that showcase the heart and soul of your brand: your values, what you love to do and how this product or service will change people’s lives.

In order to come up with powerful photos that accurately and beautifully convey you, you’ll need:

Your Unique Story

Before booking your brand photography session, think about who you are and what you have to give. Identify traits that make you unique and stand out. Think about why your product or service stands out from the rest; and come up with your unique story that inspires. What led you to the path you’re on today? What challenges did you face and overcome to discover what you know now? What is the connection/touch point that helps reach your soulmate clients? You want to inspire and touch people’s hearts, and this is the first way to do it — by telling your unique story that connects to so many others’!

Know Who Your Clients are (call in your people)

This is a very crucial element when it comes to marketing — you need to get specific about who you’re talking to and why. If you are a business coach for example, who is your clientele? Is it creative millennials who want to make more money in their freelance career? Is it for women who need to overcome their fears? You need to get crystal clear on this so that the messaging and imagery you choose reaches the people you’re trying to connect with (expressing your niche). Remember, you’re not talking to the whole world, you’re talking to your people.

Find a Photographer Who Gets Your Vision

Just like you’re calling in your soulmate clients, so too are you calling in that brand photographer who gets what you’re doing and is excited to help get you there creatively. Start by browsing on Pinterest, Instagram or Google to find brand photographers near you. Check out their photography style in their portfolio (natural lighting vs. indoor lighting, modern, documentary-style, moody etc.), and their ‘About’ page to get a taste of their story and personality — do you feel a connection? Do they offer a free consultation call? You want to be sure to find someone you’re on the same page with when it comes to talking about something as precious and important as your life’s work. For more helpful tips, check out “How to Find the Perfect Photographer for Your Personal Brand“.

Dress the Part

This is the fun part! When shoot day arrives, make sure you thoroughly discuss the game plan with your photographer and bounce ideas off them! Will it be shots of you working in your home office? Out in nature? Doing an activity you love? Running with your dog, or teaching a class? For brand photography, it’s important you wear clothing that you feel best in, that would be typical for a day in the life of your world (or your ideal day), and something that will draw people in you’re wanting to reach.

It’s important to have several wardrobe changes and scenes, as you’ll be using these photos in your social media marketing, email campaigns and website. You can use these photos for months, so having a wide variety will help in different scenarios.

This is why it’s so crucial to find a brand photographer you love and who wants to do everything they can to bring your wildest visions to life.
